"Ye" Wants To Intern For Louis Vuitton...

The New York Times reports that KANYE WEST, the infamously self-assured singer who stated to The Associated Press last month that he “will go down as the voice of this generation,” is apparently far more humble when it comes to fashion. In the hope of better understanding the design process, Mr. West has announced that he wants to take time off from his music career and intern at a fashion house. Preferably, Louis Vuitton or Raf Simons.

“I was blown away from the planet when he told me,” said Mr. Simons, by phone from Antwerp, Belgium. “I know he’s very serious about this — I don’t take it as a joke — but how can I imagine him being my intern? It’s a very extreme situation.”

Certainly, no one could criticize Mr. West for taking fashion lightly. For years, he has been a front row fixture at many of the major shows and a first-rate fashion editor for his blog (kanyeuniversecity.com), where he often spotlights new brands (“Another shout out to the kids from the lines Public School and Sandinista, my personal 2 favorites this month, you got busy!”) and products well before many of the top magazines.
